Blog #2

Manuela Gonzales is a 71 year old co-worker whom I have known for several years. She started going through menopause since her late 50’s. In the beginning the hot flashes were okay but as years went by they became more aggressive.  They started affecting her activities of daily living and became noticeable. Cold climates didn’t make a difference she still would have hot flashes. The one thing that made her decide it was time to get some medicine was not sleeping well at night. The hot flashes had taken over her sleep habits and kept her from sleeping. Because of that she was not getting enough rest to perform 100% at work. Going through menopause was getting the best of her. She decided to go to the doctor and find out what the best option was for her. She has been taking Premarin for over 15 years and don’t have to worry about sleepless nights anymore. With any other drug she says have side effects but it’s nothing compared to what she’s had to deal with in the past.

The biggest percentage of people in the US suffering with health issues are disadvantage or low income. They are at a greater risk of being unhealthy. Some reasons could be not being able to afford buying healthy foods or not having the mental capability needed to make healthy food choices. Eating healthy can reduce and minimize health problems. With having concerns of food issues there are other necessities at greater risks. Illnesses, living situations (housing, utilities and clothing) as well as transportations (fuel and maintenance) are other concerns these individuals have to deal with. These are issues and concerns encountered by being disadvantage or low income. When any of these problems are not addressed it can cause other stressors which cause health problems. When these needs are not met it can have a negative effect on being healthy.

Personal Biography

My major at the present is Health Studies. I am hoping to go back for my BSN at a later date. Some of my hobbies are; traveling, shopping, fine dinning, movies and reading interesting books. One of my personal interests in health is exploring new things about the anatomy of a woman's body. As a woman there  are medical issues we deal with on a daily basis. I would like to find out causes, symptoms and preventable measures.
The one thing that makes me unique is a being a spontaneous individual. I haven't always been this way until recently. I like to make instant decisions based on things that interest me. I recently took a trip to Europe for 12 days. It wasn't planned, I was long overdue for a vacation. I felt as if it was needed. I had a blast and would probably do it again if necessary.
